Law of Employments
• Introduction:
This task is an individual task and in all of your written work you should strive to meet the following requirements:
(a) clear, concise expression;
(b) coverage of relevant points in the topic;
(c) do not use long quotations: your own accurate paraphrasing is preferable;
(d) fluent and logical analysis and discussion, and
(e) criticism or argument where appropriate (this is important because it is an indicator of your understanding of a topic)
This task requires that you demonstrate the problem solving techniques learnt from study and practice with the Tutorial.
• Instructions:
1. You must submit your assignment as a single Word document by the due date. Please ensure that your submission is in .doc or .docx format. This is your responsibility. Submission in a format that is not readable will be treated as non-submission. Do not submit the document as a pdf file as this does not permit commenting on the document. Do not submit the document as an Apple ‘Pages’ document. No hard copy assignments will be accepted
2. You must submit your assignment online via Canvas
3. If you have already submitted your assignment, but wish to submit an updated assignment, that is acceptable so long as the most recent version is submitted before the submission deadline. The last assignment that is submitted prior to the due date and time will be the one that is marked.
4. You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit until the marked assignment has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that your assignment is misplaced, you will need to submit your backup copy
5. Penalties for late submission: The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an assessment task after the due date without an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from available marks for each day up to five days, and work that is submitted more than five days after the due date will not be marked. You will receive 0% for the task. ‘Day’ means working day for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic submissions
6. No extensions will be granted to students for misreading the assessment due date and/or time. If unexpected circumstances will prevent you from submitting your assignment by the due date, you should email the Unit Convenor, Abdullah Alajlan (aalajlan@swin.edu.au), as soon as you become aware that you will have difficulty in meeting the due date, and no later than the due date. Extensions are normally only approved when students apply for them before the due date. You must provide a reason for requiring the extension and supporting documentation in the form of a statutory declaration and/or medical certificate, and a draft of your assignment. The Unit Convenor can only grant an extension of up to 2 weeks beyond the original due date. If you require more than 2 weeks, or have already been provided an extension by the Unit Convenor and require additional time, you must apply for Special Consideration within 3 business days of the due date or extension due date.
7. The word limit will be strictly enforced and words in excess of this limit (after considering a 10% tolerance) will not be marked. The word limit for this assignment is 2,000 words excluding footnotes and bibliography. There is a +/- 10% leeway that will be applied. This means that the assignment cannot be less than 1,800 words, or more than 2,200 words, or a penalty will be applied. There are important reasons for imposing and enforcing word limits. Lawyers need to follow word limits in practice. For example, arguments for special leave to the High Court must not exceed 10 pages. In addition, conveying your arguments with brevity is an important skill to learn. It is often harder to be brief than verbose when formulating an argument, but working to achieve the former will normally produce a better result; as with most things, quality is more important than quantity.
8. The distribution of the 2,000 words is entirely up to you. You can decide how many words for first question and how many words for second question
9. In answering the two questions, you must use (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion) methodology.

11. You must number the pages of your assignment
