Dynamics of Cross-Cultural Communication: Reaction Paper

BLS 600 Dynamics of Cross-Cultural Communication: Reaction Paper Guidelines
The Reaction Paper is primarily an opportunity for you to synthesize what you have read in the assigned chapters and raise any questions, doubts, or concerns about what you have read.
Length: Each Reaction Paper should be a minimum of 6 pages.
Format: Double-spaced, MLA guidelines preferred (but if you are used to APA guidelines, they are fine as well – as long as you are consistent)
Topic: What I would suggest for choosing a topic is pick a subject that captures your interest the most. For example, you may be interested in non-verbal communication. If you choose this area, make sure you give an overview of what Gudykunst says about non-verbal communication in “Bridging Differences,” but also infuse your own thoughts – do you agree with what is said? Do you disagree? Why?
Organization: Since an important component of research is synthesizing research findings, this is a chance for you to hone those skills. When describing empirical findings mentioned in the book, be sure to cite the author/s and year of the studies that Gudykunst uses. For example, if you are referring to “mindfulness” from the text, you may need to refer to studies conducted by such authors as Langer (1989). It is perfectly fine for you to cite outside studies from journals or databases that you search to support your topic. Simply cite them in a “Works Cited” or “Bibliography” section at the end of your paper.
In the end, the ideal Reaction Paper will contain correctly summarized theories, ideas, and studies regarding the topic you are covering from the book. It will be concise, and it will give me an idea of what you think about the theories that have been developed. Some questions you may want to ask yourself as you summarize material from the book are:
– Does this theory make sense? If so, why? If not, why not?
– Do I agree with this theory (or study)? If so, why? If not, why not?
