MM 100: Chapter 1 Critical Thinking Exercise

Directions:After reading the prompt below, write a 300 – 350-word essay as a response. I want to see three main points in your essay. Each point should be addressed thoughtfully and completely.

THIS IS A FORMAL ESSAY. This means I don’t want to see bad grammar or poor spelling. Do not write it like a blog entry or a text message and do NOT leave the questions you should answer in your essay.

Double-space your assignments ALWAYS. They should also be written in Times New Roman, Calibri, or Cambria only at 12-point font. You WILL lose points for not following these directions.

As always, late assignments are not accepted.

Prompt:This prompt comes from the concepts discussed in chapter 1 of your textbook. Make sure you read the textbook so you can answer the questions well.

What is one of your favorite narratives that you’ve watched on TV or in the movies? Briefly explain the plot. Why was it so good and what was so compelling about it? If you had to change how our society creates news stories to make it more compelling for young people, what elements from your favorite narrative would you apply? How could you make news stories more compelling based upon what you like most about narratives? Discuss this fully and completely.

This prompt comes out of material found in your textbook. Make sure you read the chapter well so you can answer the questions well.

Why is the digital divide such an important issue in the United States and even globally? Why would this be a potential threat to democracy and why should society care to lessen the divide between the technological have’s and have not’s?

What about net neutrality? Why do people consider net neutrality an essential practice? What happens if the government erases net neutrality completely? How will that affect those in the digital divide, our country and our democracy? What suggestion do you have for the government to lessen the divide?
