TOPIC 10.1 ASSIGNMENT: The New Alphabetical Order
In 2015, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced that Google would become “Alphabet,” a parent company over all of the company’s many divisions. Google would become just one division under that parent company, as “What’s Behind Google’s Alphabet Shakeup?,” a YouTube video hosted by The Verge, explains.
Many people think that one of the biggest reasons for the restructuring is financial accounting–in other words, to please Google’s shareholders.
Learn more about the Alphabet restructuring by reading “The Alphabetic Order: The Benefits of Google’s Corporate Restructuring” (Eric Harding, USA Business Review).
In a Word document, answer these questions:
• What are the pros and cons of the Alphabet restructuring for the company’s financial accounting?
• Why would this restructuring be likely to please the shareholders?
• If you were a shareholder, what concerns might you have about the restructuring?
You must use information and concepts from this lesson’s reading to support your answers.
**Type your answers in a Word document of 1-2 pages double-spaced in Times New Roman 12-point or similar font.**
