Individual Writing Assignment
Student Outcome: To provide the experience for students to develop a policy that impacts the
workforce or the workplace.
Instructions: Select a current problem, for example, the inability of the profession to establish
the BSN as a minimum requirement for entry into practice, or the shortage of nurses in the
United States. Using the “What is a Political Analysis?” section found in Chapter 9 as a guide,
complete the following assignment:
1. Identifying and analyzing the problem
2. Outlining and analyzing proposed solutions
3. Understanding the background of the issue: its history and previous attempts to address
the problem
4. Locating the political setting and structures involved
5. Evaluating the stakeholders
6. Recognizing the resources (both financial and human) needed to reach the intended goals
