Lab #5 Part 2 Interpreting Climagraphs (20 pts)

Based on your assessment of the newly discovered planet’s climate, NASA decides to land surface probes on the planet.The probes landing locations are determined by NASA officials (see Map 1).After a year of data collection they provide you with enough information to form climagraphs for each location.Analyze the probe data on Table 1 and the powerpoint file Lab 5 Probe Climagraphs (a separate file in the Week 6 Module) from each landing site.

This data includes information of temperature and precipitation in climagraph form.Probe data for annual or yearly precipiatation, temperature and evapotranspiration (POTET) is also included in Table 1.Using Map 1Lab 5 Probe Climagraphs and Table 1, answer each of the following questions for each probe. Please note: you will want to use the Guide to the Köppen System(also in the week 6 Module). (12 points)

  • Do these observations match your speculations in the climate regionalization in Lab 4 at this site?
  • What geographic factors might explain any differences between your speculative genetic regionalizations and your field observations from the probes?

A NASA press conference is held about the data from the surface probes on Tau Ceti 3. Answer the following questions (write out in complete sentences!). Be sure to address location in terms of latitude and position (marine vs continental, east vs. west) on the relevant landmass!

  1. F) Kim Kardashian has announced that she wants to lead the colonization efforts on Tau Ceti 3, yet she insists on only living in a climate similar to Los Angeles. Which site would you recommend to Kim? Explain your reasoning behind this recommendation. As a separate issue, which probe site is the most suitable for human colonization in your opinion? (2 pt)
