Inequality of health service in people who are mentally ill.

All of the following elements are addressed: (1) Health disparity defined; (2) specific disparity identified according to differences that cannot be explained by variations in health care needs, patient preferences, or treatment recommendations; (3) support data for disparity is cited. (4) Broad governmental or NGO initiatives addressing the disparity; (5) Primary impact of the disparity is explored re: economic, quality of care, morbidity & mortality, and/or social justice.

All of the following areas are addressed: (1) SDH defined; (2) Disparity is explored as it occurs across one or more of the following dimensions: race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability status, citizenship, and/or sexual orientation; (3) Why must this SDH be addressed to achieve greater health equity?

All of the following areas are addressed: (1) Discuss how the reliance on employer-sponsored health insurance (ESI) in the United States impacts the identified health disparity; (2) Discuss the impact of Medicare and/or Medicaid (as appropriate) on the identified disparity. (3) The impact of Medical/Health Savings Accounts, and/or the impact of private insurance ‘incentives’ to maintain health or ‘disincentives’ for unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Discuss 3 aspect(s) of the health care delivery system that most impacts the identified health disparity (examples may include, but are not limited to: access to screening, preventive services, information technology/EHR, rural v. urban HC systems, access to primary care v ED care, distribution of HCPs, the strength/weakness of the Public Health care system in the US; the shift from inpatient to outpatient care; community-based and in-home care options; long-term/transitional care systems, the mental health care service systems, etc.)

All of the following areas are addressed: (1)Identify a specific policy (state or federal; existing or under consideration) that impacts the social determinant(s) of health identified in Question 2 as playing a major role in perpetuating the health disparity identified. (2) Name the policy & it’s intended effect; (3) describe it’s actual effect; (4) and how/why it should be repealed or amended (if existing); or introduced and passed if not current legislation.

Three *specific* ways individual nurses can become involved as advocates and/or allies to influence the policy suggestion are addressed. Two *specific* ways nursing organizations can be involved are addressed.
