Generational Diversity

This is the first time in history that we have four, maybe even five, generations present in the workplace. There are some Matures still hanging on – these are people born before 1946 – someone like my father who is still working on the farm even though he is 83! Then there are the Baby Boomers who are quickly approaching or passing traditional retirement age, although many of them are not retiring. Next is Generation X, then Generation Y or Milleninals, and entering the workplace in the next few years is Generation Z.

***So, first identify your generation, then discuss marketing in relation to your generation. Do you believe there is a difference in how generations respond to marketing? Do you see any differences in how marketing is targeted to the various generations? Have you noticed any particular generational focus to marketing efforts? If you can, give a clear example of a marketing campaign that is focused on a particular generation and discuss whether you feel it is (was) effective.***
