Submit your final presentation as a link to your video or as a document with the link to your video. You may want to have a friend or family member test your link on a separate computer from yours to make sure your video is easy to view.

Final Presentation Guidelines

Create a 4 – 5 minute oral presentation using PowerPoint with creative use of images. Record the presentation using PowerPoint (with audio), Google Hangouts, Kaltura, or YouTube for submission in module 8. If you plan to use a different way of recording your presentation, contact your instructor as soon as possible.

Practice your presentation before you record it. Time yourself and keep your presentation within the timeframe. Be sure to cover all the areas indicated in the guide below.

Section A – Introduction

Include your name, title of your presentation, a brief statement about what you are going to present and why you chose this particular movie, television show, book, song, etc.

Section B – Social Location and Description

Present a detailed description which includes
the title, the director/writer’s name, date, and any other pertinent background information
the setting – which includes the city, state or country; regional designation such as urban, rural, suburban, small town, wilderness, etc.; time period (e.g. 1990s)
synopsis – general overview of the story

Section C – Religious Themes

Which religion is being portrayed?

In this section, discuss:

The foundation and history of the religion portrayed in your chosen media (e.g., if the religion in your media is Islam, discuss the founding members of the religion, its founding themes and central ideas, and how Islam first began to spread as a religion). The religion as it exists in the present day, and how it has changed from its historical foundations (e.g., if the religion in your media is Judaism, discuss modern sects of Judaism, such as Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative, and how those sects differ from ancient Judaism).

Section D – Comparative Analysis

Critically analyze the portrayal of religion in your chosen media.
How are religious characters portrayed in the media? How does the religious tradition treat specific characters, and what kind of roles would these characters have within the
How does the religious tradition treat specific characters, and what kind of roles would these characters have within the religious tradition? (e.g., what kind of role could a female character have within the religion?) How does religion affect the lives of the characters?

Section E – Concluding Interpretive Reflections

How do you feel religion is being portrayed in your chosen media? Is it being portrayed honestly or dishonestly? Is this portrayal of religion positive or negative? What do you think the original author/director wanted to say about this religion and the people within the religion?
