Advertising images and messages influence
Advertising images and messages influence us not only to purchase certain products, but also influence how we view ourselves and our needs. In this project, you will choose a general product and collect at least five advertisements for particular brands of that product on the market. You will be examining the messages given in the images as well as the text used by the advertisers to sell the product. Why do we need the product? What does it purport to do for us?
What happens if we don’t buy it? What variety is there in the product that impacts whom it will fit? Who is the market demographic? The outcome of this project is to interpret messages the advertiser gives the viewers and examine, through two secondary sources, the impact those messages have on viewers’ self-image.
