Write a synthesis paper in which you develop an interesting thesis about the doppelgänger in Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Stevenson’s “Markheim,” Poe’s “William Wilson,” and (if you wish) Black Swan and/or Fight Club. In addition to the doppelgänger, you may, if you wish, consider concepts like the unheimlich, Gothic, or id, ego, and superego.
Take the information you have so far in the course and develop an interesting, focused, unified thesis based on a careful, intelligent understanding of the sources, and find something to say more than these works show doppelgängers. Organize the paper as a synthesis (organize by ideas and defining elements, each supported by multiple relevant sources, not one source per paragraph).
Required sources:
Robert Louis Stevenson, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Robert Louis Stevenson, “Markheim”
Edgar Allan Poe, “William Wilson”
