Please answer each question with a combination of the readings, videos, examples from your professional experience and your ideas. 1. Provide a summary of the sources of power available to managers and offer a workplace example of each one. What sources of power emerge from personal attributes and which ones are primarily based on position. Describe and contrast instrumental compliance, identification and internalization and offer an example of each. Cialdini and Sagarin identify 6 pervasive principles of influence. Provide a summary of each and offer a workplace example for each one.

2. Compare and contrast the organic and machine approaches to management as described in the article “Is Management Still a Science?” Provide a summary of “Systems Theory” as described in the article “A Shift of Mind.” The article “The Laws of the 5th Discipline” summarizes a series of principles that come from adopting a “Systems View” of organizations. Provide a summary of 5 of these laws and offer a workplace example of each one.

3. The article “Organizational Ecology” provides a macro view of the factors that can impact organizational effectiveness and survival. It is a view that stresses the environmental context over managerial action as the primary determinants of organizational survival and growth. Provide a summary of how liabilities of newness and adolescence can contribute to organizational decline. Provide a summary of Structural Inertia Theory and describe how it accounts for organizations’ inability to adapt to environmental change.In the chapter describing “Natures Templates,”Senge provides a discussion of recurring structure found in all systems. Summarize Senge’s two systemic archetypes and describe the strategies managers can use to gain leverage in each.
