2. answer following questions about New Zealand: (1) What are the dominant lifestyles of different groups of citizens like in the country in terms of income, carbon footprint and capacity to adapt to climate change impacts? 15 points for well cited demographic description of the carbon footprint characteristics of different populations in the country.
(2) How does climate change affect vulnerable populations in your country? Vulnerable populations must include women, poor people, Indigenous peoples and at least one other group identified in your think tank’s research on your country. For climate change adaptation, what is your country’s treatment of women, Indigenous people, poor people and people who live off the land? These slides must discuss the populations that are particularly vulnerable to climate change in your country, and discuss why they are vulnerable and to what impacts in particular they are vulnerable to. This is primarily an issue of adaptation; however, do not hesitate to mention how these groups may not be able to take advantage of significant opportunities to be part of mitigation efforts, if appropriate. You may also mention concerns these communities have with their participation in your country’s political platform at the international level. Full credit will be given to accounts of vulnerable populations that rely on the concepts used in the class so far regarding Indigenous peoples and women. The accounts of vulnerable populations the think tank provides must be well researched in the sense that think tank must rely on accurate information. 15 points for well cited references describing who the vulnerable populations are in the country and accurate explanations as to why they are vulnerable.
(3) What are at least 5 tradeoffs that your country should be prepared to make in relation to climate change? 10 points for well-articulated tradeoffs that show why the country will have to choose one thing over another and why having to choose will create certain tensions in the country.
