Islam Paper
For this paper, you are required to answer the following questions, utilizing 1, 5, 6, 8, and one additional chapter in Pedram Khosronejad’s edited volume on Islam and material culture.
How does art/material culture mediate the religious experience of Shi’a Muslims? What are the different ways in which meaning is created through these objects/images/icons? Who are the religious characters that figure in these rituals and experiences?
Requirements:
Use all of the chapters cited above in answering the above questions.
Cite specific examples to support your assertions. Demonstrate that you have read the entire text. Failure to do so will result in a low grade.
Paper must be a minimum of 5 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12.
Paper must use the Chicago Manual of Style with footnotes.
We will be discussing the papers in class next week, so if you are absent, you will miss out on the possible 5 points of extra credit available to you. Be prepared to discuss your papers and offer some insights to your classmates.
