In the hallway of a university in Southern California, three students – Hamza, an international student from Morocco; Cathy, who came to the United States four years ago from France; and Immaculee from Rwanda, who immigrated 17 years ago – spend the 15-minute break during their interucltural communication class speaking with each other in French, relishing in the comfort that speaking a language of “home” offers and forming an intercultural relationship, however temporary and transitory. Why would they all speak French
