Forum 7 Module 7

Read the following ethical dilemma from page 202 of the textbook:

“Rebeka Holly, lead teacher for a child care program, was in shock to receive a phone call from the police stating that Bobby Hernandez, one of her children, had ‘escaped’ the child care center. Bobby wandered across a busy highway, strolled in and out of an auto shop, helped himself to gum and a soft drink at a convenience store, and walked into a nearby sports bar. The story of ‘the bot who escaped child care’ went viral on the Internet and social media, with demands to shut the child care facility down. Rebeka is furious at Stacy Holcomb, the teacher in charge of Bobby, for not properly supervising her children.”

“Rebeka understands that a huge mistake was made, but she also knows her child care program has the potential to provide high-quality care. She hopes that this situation can be used to spur her center to become a high-quality program. Furthermore, the child care program is located in an area serving low-income parents. However, parents are pulling their children from the program. Television channels and local papers are calling for interviews, and now the state licensure board is threatening to ‘clean house.’ What should Rebeka do?”

Thread: Respond to the reading by composing 2 paragraphs explaining the manner in which you would address this scenario. Make sure you include as many details as possible so your colleagues can visualize your explanation. Title your thread by including some details that may “draw” your classmates to read your writing. For example, “Love and Correction!”

Replies: Reply to at least 2 colleagues’ threads by responding to their personal experience and reflection by taking the time to specifically react to their writing. Your replies must each be at least 1 paragraph.

Your thread is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of Module/Week 7 and your 2 replies are due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the same module/week.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:

Synthesize values concerning the nature of child development.

Integrate essential dispositions and skills to develop positive, respectful relationships with children whose cultures and languages differ from one’s own.
