write a long essay that compares and contrasts two artists’ works, or two exhibitions from the same country, or from two different countries in Asia. Students may choose their topic from the weekly lectures but it must be different from the one they explored in their oral and short written presentation.
The long essay is designed for students to develop their research, analytical and writing skills, and to develop a better understanding of visual and text-based discourses on Asian art. Students should critically discuss and reference (in footnotes and in the bibliography) a minimum of four scholarly publications from the course reading list which are relevant to their chosen topic. Students should include a full bibliography to demonstrate they have read widely and critically on their topic.
