Each student will choose one ethnic or cultural group to research for a CULTURAL
Each student is encouraged to choose a different cultural and/or ethnic group from those that the student may personally identify with.
The purpose of the assignment is for students to explore the dynamics, traditions, and values that may be found within families of diverse backgrounds. Students should seek to approach the assignment with respect and openness, and should endeavor to find quality, unbiased sources of information. The CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE should seek to provide a general description of family life within each student’s chosen group, as well as the student’s critique of the relevance of family counseling for families within their chosen group. Students should consult and cite at least 3-5 references:
at least one of these sources should be a journal article and/or empirically validated research study on families within said chose group. If a minimum of 3 references is consulted, no more than one may be an Internet resource (Please do not use Wikipedia). Students are encouraged to include the perspective of individual/s who identify with the cultural or ethnic background being covered, as they may be able to offer valuable insights not easily captured in written sources. Any oral and/or personal feedback should be considered as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, more traditional written forms of research. All sources must be cited in APA format.
The CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE should be double-spaced typed in 12 pt. standard font
and submitted with appropriate cover on the due date assigned. The paper should be
submitted in a professional manner with particular attention given to grammar, spelling, and general appearance.
The paper should be in APA format and must include an APA approved Works Cited.

Students should provide a general description of family life and relationship dynamics that may be found indigenous to that group. Explore how gender roles are
perceived; expectations for children; handling of the aging; relationships with extended family; family traditions, values, holidays, rituals; feel about meals; issues that the chosen group may encounter and how they are resolved.
