Applied Research Process Question 1:

The following is the assignment as set out for the module of Applied Research Process for Data Analytics.

The goal of this assessment is to give learners the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to present their research proposal in a poster format.

A poster is a large printed document, typically combining text and images, that embodies a succinct description of work that has been done. The poster is ‘presented’ at the conference by being displayed on a provided easel, with an author at hand to explain the work and provide more detail to interested attendees. Presenting a poster is a good way to discuss and receive feedback on a work in progress that has not been fully developed into a paper.

The topic of a poster presentation should be that of your research proposal.

Your poster should include:

  • Researchers Name and Contact (5 Marks)
  • Research Question or Hypothesis (10 Marks)
  • An introduction to your Research (10 Marks)
  • An overview or literature review (10 Marks)
  • Proposed Methodology/Research Plan (20 Marks)
  • Future research / Potential Artefact (20 Marks)
  • Appropriate referencing, IEEE or Harvard Referencing (5 Marks)
  • Correct grammar and spelling (10 Marks)
  • Clear formatting and design, including the DBS Logo (10 Marks)

The final submission should be submitted on moodle in one of the following formats, .ppt, .pdf, .docx

Your poster should also be designed for display and review in A1 poster size dimensions submitted to your lecturer.

The following is the assignment as set out for the module of Applied Research Process for Data Analytics.

The goal of this assessment is to give learners the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to research, plan and develop a research proposal by using the following skills:

  • Research and select a problem domain: (15 Marks)
    • A well structured and relevant Research Question or Hypothesis
  • Choose a research Topic: (15 Marks)
    • Focused on a single problem or issue
    • Researchable using primary and/or secondary sources
    • Feasible to answer within the timeframe and practical constraints
    • Specific enough to answer thoroughly
    • Complex enough to develop the answer over the space of a paper or thesis
    • Relevant to field of study and/or society more broadly
  • Develop a literature review: (20 Marks)
    • Current
    • Relevant
    • Authority/Accuracy
  • Formulate a Research Plan: (20 Marks)
    • Identify an appropriate research methodology
    • Future research / Potential Artefact
  • Provide and appropriate Bibliography/References: (15 Marks)
    • using IEEE or Harvard Referencing in a consistent way
  • Appropriately formatted using the agreed format: (15 Marks)
    • Correct format
    • Correct length
    • Correct language and grammar

The final submission should be 2000 words and completed using the ACM Master Article Template linked below.
