A Portfolio Project

Assignment 1: A Portfolio Project

It is time to finalize and bring together the different parts of the portfolio project into one cohesive package.

As introduced in Module 1, the final portfolio has to be written in APA format, including a cover page, an abstract, and references. You should use subheadings to clearly organize the paper into the five required components, and each section should begin with a description of its contents and purpose, as follows:

Personal working model for conflict resolution (revised and updated if appropriate, on the basis of previous class discussions and feedback)
Self-assessments
Reflections on response patterns to conflict scenarios
Reflections from interviews with professionals
Conclusions and goals for improvement

This portfolio should be more than a simple compilation of your previous work. Employ reflection on the work you have previously completed and what you have learned and discovered and then synthesize the information into your final portfolio paper.

Submission Details:

By the due date assigned, post your responses to this Discussion Area.
Through the end of the module, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. While responding, comment on current practice and future plans or additional strategies addressed by them in their submissions related to small-group theory, organizational theories, and/or leadership theories.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

When managing conflict, use approaches that are value based, professional, ethical, and well supported.
Analyze the impact of both cultural and economic factors on conflict management and explain the potential for conflict that stems from diversity issues within organizations and communities, and amongst stakeholders.

Managing Conflict in the Global World

Implications for Conflict in Global Organizations As the world becomes a global market and workplaces and organizations attempt to adapt to the external environment, the amount of conflict within organizations will increase. The larger the workforce, the more diverse the workforce is apt to be; therefore, there will be a greater potential for conflict. Leaders who are sensitive to the different nuances of different cultures are apt to be far more successful in limiting the amount of conflict that may occur. When problems occur between cultures, they are often related to dealing with differences.

Leaders must remove barriers and stereotypes in the workplace in order to allow and encourage a strong community for diversity. Understanding and Respecting Cultural Differences In order to understand and respect cultural differences, you must have an open mind and try not to stereotype. You do not have to change your own beliefs about certain situations, but you should not be afraid to evaluate and understand that everyone has a right to his or her own beliefs. You can learn a lot by talking with and observing people from other cultures, as well as observing and learning from different situations and settings.

The knowledge learned can add value to the organization and have a positive impact on the bottom line through performance and retention. These are achieved through cohesive teams that are highly developed and high performing. Cultural competency usually evolves over a period of time as it takes time to develop the necessary awareness and understanding of a different culture (whether societal or organizational). What makes cultural competency so difficult is the fact that culture is always changing. Essentially, it is up to organizational leaders who must manage the relationships and perceptions, within the organization as well as with all outside stakeholders, to avoid any potential conflicts. Refer to the Developing the Global Leader of Tomorrow to read a report on developing the global leader of tomorrow.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.
