- The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that you can use theoretical knowledge and frameworks as guides to understand and work with a client or client system.
- Preparing to Write the Theory and Practice Paper
- Over the next few weeks, you will need to start thinking about the following for your paper: As you’re introduced to new theories in your readings and resources, choose two that you think would be interesting to compare and contrast
- Think about a case from your field placement that you could apply your chosen theories to. If you do not have an appropriate client from your Field Placement or from your work environment, talk to your instructor about a character from a television show or film that you feel would be an appropriate substitute.
Start with a one-page detailed description of your chosen case. Remember this should either be related to your field practicum or a character from television/film that you and your instructor have agreed on.
- Apply your first chosen theory to the case (Psychodynamic theory – trauma-informed care)
- According to the theory, how are thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and interaction patterns, identified problems, etc. explained and understood?

- Apply your second chosen theory to the case (Cognitive theory – cognitive restructuring strategy)

- Your final paper should be 8-10 pages in length, double spaced; using APA style and appropriate references.
