Play writing Assignment
- Write a 2-4 page script based on one of the themes we discussed in class:
- Love
- Deception
- Treachery
- Betrayal
- family issues
- greed
- social mores
- Use a fairytale or Mother Goose type story (i.e. Jack and Jill, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the Three Little Pigs, etc.) as the platform for your script
- Write your scene in script form:
- Descriptions of scenes or emotions written in italics
- Character name, followed by a : followed by tab space, then dialogue begins
- Select the genre of your choice (i.e. comedy, traditional tragedy, musical theatre, murder mystery, sci-fi etc.) for your scene.
- Your play should have a maximum of 4 characters
- Take creative liberties. Feel free to change names and places as you see fit
- Bring typed copies of your scene to class (1 per character)
- To write a successful script
- Focus on creating 3-dimensional characters that have clear motivations
- Define the conflict – what is the problem within the plot
- Give your scene a title
- INTRODUCTION INFORMATION (written at the top of your play)
- Title – centered
- Characters – list of their names, important info about them if necessary
- Theme – what did you select
- Genre – what did you select for your play
- Fairytale – what did you select as your foundation
- Conflict – what is the conflict you created
- You will be graded on participation, creativity and adherence to the instructions
