Choose ONE of the following topics.

  1. Many fictional works feature flawed or ignorant characters who redeem themselves through learning from their mistake. Compare and/or contrast Edie from “How I Met My Husband” to the narrator from “Cathedral.”  (Hint questions:  How or why are they flawed or ignorant?  What triggers any changes in their characters?  How do we know they are more experienced and insightful by the end of the story?)

  1. Compare the use of horror and/or violence in “SredniVashtar” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” (Hint: Think about how setting, characterization, plot twists, etc. contribute to the horror and/or violence.)
