Health sciences and medicine

After reading Chapters 1-4 in Slow Death by Rubber Duck, arrange an on-line discussion with your book group in Canvas. You can schedule a time when all group members are available and have your discussion in one sitting. Alternatively, you may have an on-going discussion over the two- week period between October 15 and November 1. Each member of the group is expected to contribute to the on-line discussion in a meaningful way. Keep your discussions professional and respectful.

Everyone’s thoughts and opinions are valuable and should be respected. In these discussions, there are not right and wrong answers. Here are the questions for your discussion. You should discuss all the questions, but you don’t need to limit your online discussion to the questions below. We will be checking in on the discussions.

1. In Chapter 1 Rick and Bruce describe their “Toxic Experiment”. What do you think is the goal of their experiment? What are they trying to find out or accomplish?

2. What do you think about the methods they’ve chosen to study “a new kind of pollution”? What are some of the strengths and limitations of their experiment?

3. What do the authors conclude after studying phthalates, PFOA, PCBs? Do you agree with their conclusions?

4. For the substances discussed in Chapters 2, 3 and 4 what do you think are some potential public health interventions that may reduce human exposure to these substances?
