For this assignment, you will be asked to write a presentation or essay on a topic found to be a problem. You will identify the issue, present at least two sides, and propose a logical explanation for this problem. The primary goal is to problem that is observable, similar to that we saw in the video.

Follow a Writing Process:

• Before writing, make use of invention techniques to begin identifying the issue in two texts
• Planning includes identifying positions, establishing main ideas (or topic sentences) for each part. support positions and your ideas with appropriate evidence, and creating ideas for the introduction and conclusion.
• Draft and revise as needed.

Method of Organization:

• Introduction of issue, sides, sources used, and your thesis/claim/position
• Summary of one side or position on an issue
• Summary of second side or position on an issue
• Multiple supporting details for your explanation.
• Concluding with a call to action

Requirements:

• 3 minutes minimum; 10 minutes maximum for the power point, or 2-3 pages.
• Cite sources within the presentation or paper.
• Works Cited page, slide, etc. with full bibliographic information for sources used.

2) Media Archive Assignment: 5-7 page

Each student will, at the beginning of the semester,
select a topic of current interest, import, or controversy that has received wide coverage in the news and other media sources over the past two years, into the present.

The student will collect news stories, articles, video, and other relevant media explorations or reflections of/on the topic.

Possible issues include police violence, the first 100 days of the new presidential administration, and related issues around race, class, gender and sexuality. We will discuss these throughout the semester.
