Business ethics is the examination of ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a business environment. It applies to

virtually every human behavior, by individuals, groups or the entire organization, involved in conducting business. Maintaining good

business ethics is dependent on consistently choosing right from wrong in all business-related matters.
•Are the types of communication ethics controversies in which Wal-Mart has been embroiled any different than those faced by other large

firms? Why, or why not?
•Wal Mart instituted its own internal “whistle blowing” system to demonstrate their commitment to ethical business practices. Is this

system effective? If not, what needs to be changed?
•What was the experience of the employee, highlighted in the article, who reported a perceived ethics violation? How effectively did Wal-

mart address her concerns?
•Does your organization have a code of ethics? If so, is it posted where employees can see it? In your opinion, is the code consistently

practiced by the organization? Why, or why not? If your organization does not have a code of ethics, what would you suggest be included in

that code if you were asked to write one for your organization?
