Business Management Unit

PART ONE: GENERAL ASSIGNMENT ( SEE AND COMPLETE ATTACHED S.A.W. WORKSHEETS)

This presentation introduces you to the essential four questions that management must answer for its employees when goals and activities are developed. The presentation also helps to answer the first three questions; the feedback you gather from your instructor will help to answer the last question.

What do I do?
How do I do it?
What does good look like?
How am I doing?

Now that you have declared the functional area you want to focus on, it is time to identify and develop goals for that area and for the human resources area. Follow these steps to complete this project component (all of the required documents are given in the Resources):

Download the SAW for human resources.
Complete the section 1.0 Goals and Activities.
Develop three goals (in addition to the four provided) for the manager of human resources.
Identify activities that support achievement of each goal, and the achievement deadline needed to complete the activity.
Download the SAW for your declared functional area.
Complete the section 1.0 Goals and Activities.
Develop three goals (in addition to the four provided) for the manager of the area you have chosen.
Identify activities that support achievement of each goal, and the achievement deadline needed to complete the activity.
Prepare a one-page reflection write up on the sections you just completed for both the human resources area and your declared functional area, which addresses the following questions:
Justify the goals and activities you included in your SAW for the human resources area and your declared functional area.
Why is planning important to strategic management?
How is it important to the achievement of organizational goals?
What current or past experience did you draw from, if any?
What research was used to support your work in arriving at the goals and activities? Use APA style and formatting to cite your sources.

You will continue to complete the other sections in the SAWs throughout the remainder of the course. Keep in mind that your completed SAWs for the human resources area and your declared functional area will be incorporated into your final course project, Atha Executive Plan.

Prior to submitting your assignment, review the course project description and the Project Goals and Activities Scoring Guide to ensure you have met overall project requirements and all of the criteria for this assignment.

Submit these three items as attachments to the assignment area:

SAW (for the human resources area).
SAW (for the functional area you chose—sales and marketing, accounting and finance, or operations and production).
Reflection write up.

PART TWO DISCUSSIONS: DISCUSSION ARE GENERAL RESPONSES THEY NEED TO BE IN APA FORMAT AND PROFESSIONAL THOUGH THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BE FORMATTED LIKE A RESEARCH PAPER.

DISCUSSION ONE:
Managers as Leaders

In some cases, individuals believe they are capable of managing others, but they fail to live up to the expectations of organizational leadership and their direct reports. You have most likely heard the saying: “People leave managers, not companies.”

Prepare a post that answers the following:

What does this quote mean to you?
What kinds of information from your readings and independent research support your perspective?
What are some examples and anecdotes to illustrate this? Feel free to draw from your own professional experiences.
How can you use the Understanding Yourself: How Motivated Am I to Manage? self-assessment (from Unit 1 studies) to expand on this quote?

DISCUSSION TWO:
Decision Making( SEE ATTACHMENTS FOR TEXT TO GO WITH PART 1 &2)

In this discussion, you will start to expand on the concepts introduced in Chapter 4 of your text. Prepare a discussion post that responds to the following:
Part 1

Review “Three Approaches Managers Can Use to Make Decisions” in your text and answer the following questions:

Do these approaches make sense to you? Support your answer with your readings and independent research.
Which of the three approaches did you use when you were required to make a business-related decision? Describe the situation. What was the impact on the organization?

Part 2

Review “How Can You Improve Group Decision Making” in your text and answer the following:

Describe a time when you were part of a team that was assigned to make a decision.

What were the circumstances?
How did the process work?
Were you in agreement with the decision? What were the results or effects of the decision?
What would you have done differently?
